Another Life Well Lived
05:40
|
|||
When I think about the things I could regret
Mistakes I’ve made and things I’ve said – I wish I could forget
But I draw comfort from knowing that I’ve fought
To be a man of meaning who learns from what he’s lost
So I gather all my courage, and focus on the prize
That place of peace and solace and the promise it implies
Forget the wins and losses
And give all you can give
See your legacy unfolding
From another life well lived
Acts of kindness, whether they are large or small
The blind can see and deaf can hear their soulful siren’s call
And love that emanates from showing that you care
Promotes the kind of world where hope can overcome despair
So I gather all my courage, and focus on the prize
That place of peace and solace and the promise it implies
Forget the wins and losses
And give all you can give
See your legacy unfolding
From another life well lived
There’s one simple question; how can we make our lives sublime
And depart, leavin’ behind, footprints in the sands of time
And so, the day is near, the Piper must be paid
Have I fulfilled my purpose and the promises I made
Did I try to rectify the struggles of the age
And leave behind a future sowed by seeds of change
When I look into the mirror, and gaze up to the skies
There’s only peace and solace reflected in these eyes

*Acknowledgement to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow for the lyric to the bridge, which is derived from the following stanza in his A Psalm of Life:
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Landslide
05:56
|
|||
There’s a morning moon a setting in the western sky today
And the autumn gold is changing to a winter shade of gray
They came here for a reason, so many years ago
Just what that is I need to know
And I’m trying hard to understand the reason why
They had to cross to the other side
Some things hit you easy, while others hit you hard
This one hit me like a landslide
Now I’m searching for some silver in these clouds so lined with pain
But the winds of change keep blowin’ like an angry hurricane
And I kick myself for thinking every minute of every day
There was one last thing I needed to say
And if I find some kind of peace within myself
I’ll always have their memory to share
But in my mind it seems an end unto itself
An imaginary castle in the air
There are four bright stars a rising in the twilight of the night
Four bright spirits glowing with their warm eternal light
And with each passing season it gets easier to see
Four souls watching over me
Still in my heart I feel there was no reason why
They had to cross to the other side
Some things hit you easy, while others hit you hard
This one hit me like a landslide
It hit me like a landslide

Silence, unprotected, like the calm before the storm
In golden rays of sunlight, it pervades the early ‘morn
It speaks to me in sacred tones ‘bout the history of this land
And how I should obey its one command
To keep walking on hallowed ground
Following the sound of the river flow
Walking on hallowed ground
Any way the path goes
Walking on hallowed ground
The sky up above and the earth below
Walking on hallowed ground
The only way the heart knows
Seasons need no reason, to change the way they do
One only needs to pass before the next one comes anew
They speak in different images, ‘bout the beauty of our land
And how we should obey its one command
Voices of the spirit, telling stories of this land
Listen, can you feel it, resonate from where you stand

I Believe (In Love)
06:35
|
|||
I, believe we’re on this earth to make a difference
Our life, is a gift bestowed to us as wings to Icarus
To fly, far beyond the limits of uncertainty
At peace, trusting fear will never get the best of me
I believe that faith will find a way to conquer fear
And I believe it will guide us toward a brighter new frontier
Oh I believe in faith
I, believe with all my heart that life is sacred
Of that, not everyone on earth has been persuaded
It’s hard, to see beyond the limits of our universe
When eyes, are closed to things we see as being too diverse
I believe that light will always overcome the dark
And I believe the moon and stars illuminate the heart
Oh I believe…
… in light that can open up the haunting skies above and let the sun shine through
So faith with its wisdom and hope, will help, rebuild the world anew
I, believe we must stand up for truth and fairness
To fight, for a deeper sense of purpose and awareness
A life, confused by hate deprives us of our empathy
But when, infused with love becomes the perfect remedy
I believe that love will find a way to vanquish hate
And I believe, in this lifetime we will reach that higher state
Oh I believe in love
I believe in faith
I believe in light
I believe in love

Troubled Heart
05:20
|
|||
Heart of mine, kept inside this hollow chest
Caught up in the emptiness
Lost in time, beating to the rhythm of
The yearning for a tender love
I just want to know, if I’ll ever get control
Of feeling like it’s so hard to breathe
I need to see a sign, that this restless heart of mine
Will find a peaceful release
Is there anyone before the morning comes
Who can save me from these fits and starts
Close this open wound or I fear it will consume
The chambers of my troubled heart
Thoughts be still, things I can’t believe are said
By voices locked inside my head
Strength of will, capacity to clearly see
Through this veil that covers me
I can hardly breathe, I’m down on bended knees
Begging for my soul to keep
There’s so little time, for this restless heart of mine
To wake from this mortal sleep
I believe, in matters of the heart we cannot fall apart
So I will weave a safety net of love and hang it up above my heart

Till the End of Time
05:05
|
|||
There’s a light in the dark night glowing; tho’ the night’s an uncertainty
There’s a calm in the gift of knowing, that your soul’s watching over me
Years go by, like distant memories, as we drift our separate ways
Still your heartbeat deep within me counts the passing of the days
And it’s hard when I think about it
All our lives we’ve walked the same bloodlines
Flesh and blood, cut from the same cloth
Two hearts, one soul entwined
‘Till the end of time
I’ve done things that I’m not proud of, for which I apologize
This ancestral bond between us, a strong resolve of compromise
Of all we share in common and all we’ve put to test
The folks would be so proud to see us put our differences to rest
And it’s hard when I think about it
All our lives we’ve walked the same bloodlines
Flesh and blood, cut from the same cloth
Two hearts, one soul entwined
Pure love the way it was meant to be
Trust me when I tell you sister; I believe in you as you believe in me
And it’s hard when I think about it
All our lives we’ve walked the same bloodlines
Flesh and blood, cut from the same cloth
Two hearts, one soul entwined
We walk the same bloodline
These are the strings that bind
‘Till the end of time
Two hearts, one soul ’till the end of time
Two hearts, one soul ’till the end of time
‘Till the end of time

Once, they were childhood friends
Forever bound, by reason and rhyme
One was a private poet
And the other, the public face of her time
There was Emily dressed all in white
An angel of mythical light
And Helen the Hunter of Words
Was the consummate Muse; pursuer of justice and truth
Two lives as different as moon and sun
Yet friends for the long run
They were soul sisters in meter and verse
The Daughters of Amherst
Lives, shaped by idealist dreams
Inspire hope, desire and heart
To learn, that which makes us the same
Is the strength to defeat what keeps us apart
Just like Emily dressed all in white
We are angels of mythical light
Transcendence our shared destiny
As we open our arms in a gesture of pure empathy
They weren’t the only ones destined to leave their mark
Though they were the first, with a hunger and thirst
The original Daughters of Amherst
And when they appear to you in your dreams
There will be no doubt what it means
Heed their message of wisdom and strength
All you need to do is be on that same wavelength
Our lives reflecting the moon and sun
Friends for the long run
We are soul sisters in meter and verse
Like those Daughters of Amherst
They’re weren’t the only ones
They’re not the only ones
To drink from the waters of Amherst
Because it was meant to be, we honor their legacy
We’re the new Daughters of Amherst

Faded Photographs
05:17
|
|||
He awakens every morning and looks into the eyes
Of the person lying beside him, who he does not recognize
On the nightstand there’s a picture in a five by seven frame
Of a woman who’s familiar, tho’ he can’t recall her name
His world is filled with shattered dreams, panes of broken glass
Just memories that disappear like faded photographs
Gravity pulls its weight
And every soul meets its fate
When people ask a question, he feels so much the fool
He struggles for the answer, like a child in grammar school
He’s lost inside this darkness, afraid and all alone
A man without a purpose, a man without a home
His world is filled with shattered dreams, panes of broken glass
Just memories that disappear like faded photographs
Gravity pulls its weight
And every soul meets its mate
For all the faded photographs and things that have been lost
He won’t abandon his belief in love at any cost
He holds on to every sunset, and every waning moon
Mental pictures soon forgotten, like the lyrics of this tune
And that haunting distant memory, in the five by seven frame
Of a woman so familiar, tho’ he can’t recall her name
Of a feeling so familiar, still he can’t recall her name

Lay You Down
07:13
|
|||
There’s a light that shines for every one of us
So bright, at times we look away
There’s a risk of giving in to our wanderlust
A fear, of living life that way
You know, it’s up to you, to live the life you choose
But you can’t win unless you sometimes lose
So lay you down, rest your weary head
And close your eyes, sweet dreams tonight instead of feelin’ blue
Feel this moment now, before it slips away
There’s a time, a time when you’ll discover that
It’s not so hard to make it through these darker days
There’s a path, that’s traveled by a sacred few
So close to you, you’ll always find your way
But rest now, you sleepless child, and put to bed your inner wild
Dreams of wonder, dreams of happiness
Just lay you down, rest your weary head
And close your eyes, sweet dreams tonight instead of feelin’ blue
Feel this moment now, before it slips away
And if ever I should see you
Acting like you didn’t care
I will fill you up; drink from the lovin’ cup
The magic potion if you dare
